Like others have said, it looks like a larger cousin of a Pink Tail Chalceus, but I have no idea. Never seen one before. Cool fish.

My pink tail grew to 6" really quick, but hasn't grown at all in the last 6 months. They definitely don't get to be 2' like the fishes in your photos.

Could be a grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) with yellow fins?

grass carp dont have adipose fin.

also in the tank was what looked like Vieja Argentea central american cichlids. but possibly there is an african species that looks similar.

well...we know its a chracin.
cyprinids dont have adipose fins.
i cnt come up with any SA characin except the chalceus...so imma go with african as well.

this fish has me going nutty, i cant figure out what the hell it is and i have basically stumped some of the greatest minds in fish keeping, the mfk elitists. i almost have to find out what it is and buy one now just because.

Try contacting someone at the aquarium or zoo. And ask them what species it is. It would be better to do this in a email. Cause they will most likely have to look it up. Include the picture and what tank it was in.

I just emailed them with the question and a picture. We will see what they say.

right on i guess i feel kind of dumb right now as to why i didnt think of that.

JDs right it is definetly NOT a typical Chelceus OR a carp.

I want to say I've seen something similar in Oddballs photos.
