Possibly Good Deal On Light Fixture, is it worth it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not the ones I pointed out to him...although I am sure you could rig somethin up easy...do you have access to a saw, and a nice drill?

Oh I didn't see that post i guess lol

No worries, might not have even been in this thread man. I just know I mentioned it awhile back. I didnt know that he didnt want to mount, or that he couldnt make something to hang them from above the tank. Building a canopy in my experience was pretty easy...20min...minus the stain and sealant. Plus drilling on the fixtures probably took another 20min.

Hey thanks for the replies, i thought they needed to be suspended because they would heat the water to much, any any good MH models out that are definitly long lasting?

Thanks and yeah i could get a drill and a saw

Hey Everybody,

Heading to maximum reefs this weekend if anyone is familiar with the store. They said they can get the fixture I want for cheap like shown before...with a total of 216 watts and 3 leds or total of 324 watts and 3 leds....I forgot if it has 4-6 t5s.

Also I will see about the MH with max reefs, any brands that you guys use with good results? I've been looking at this one, pricey but may be good for future corals:

Well Im probably going to go with the light fixture that i was thinking about originally, do you know of any corals that can thrive under it's lighting?

I've been looking at MH but it gets pretty exspensive when you want leds, and legs without suspenstion from the ceiling...and making a canopy for a bowfront tank.

For corals I really like polyps...will it work?

The one that was just solid T5's? A little over 200w if Im not mistaken? On a 72g bowfront?

I would say softies, LPS, and some SPS high up that arent demanding (montis).

Try it. It lives, good. There will always be some trial and error involved in this. You will learn your limitations better than I can teach them to you without using the light.

Ok thanks fleshy, guesing like you said trial and error, i'll update when ever i purchased the fixture.
Thanks guys, for clarifying everything

Btw fleshy all those questions are all yes, (solid t5ss, 72 gallon bow...)

You will be good with T5s on the 72 like Fleshy said.

I showed you my setup of T5s on my 72 Bow and I have alot of Zoas/Palys, softies, BTAS, and LPS all doing good. All my LPS is on my sandbed and they seem to be good. They were all doing fine when I had the 4 bulb (216w) fixture before I added my other fixture and LED strip so I am sure you will be good if you decide to get that one.

If you go with the 4' 6 bulb unit you might want to check on the width of it. The unit might be wider than the straight sides of the tank before it bows. It might make using the legs tricky if you don't want to hang it.
