All I can tell you is what has worked for me. I have always only done the 50-75% water changes for over 4 years now. My fish have always seemed healthy and never looked sick. That is why I posted the pics of the oscars fin because it's never looked like that. It was only after I did do an approximately 95% change.
I have t one fish die due to illness; just due to my mean $$$ Oscar lol.

nitrate kills over time, allot of the time it is not a pleasant death, what you do is up to you, but i highly suggest you change to water changes of 90% or fin level once a week, and please get the test kit mentioned if you can. if you are changing with buckets, get a python water changing system kit.
