That's great! I've often wondered about the risk of getting stung. I know that there are stingray touching ponds but what do they do about the potential of someone getting stung? That would be a heck of a lawsuit! I have had fw stingrays for a few years now but I am still too afraid to hand feed them. My tank is too deep to put my hand on the bottom to get near their mouth and it is too risky to dangle the food above them. So how do they do it? Just curious.
Pool is 20' x 40' and 24" deep as of now (finished for the stingrays).
We trim the barb of all animals in the pool, and check them often. Here is one of our Southern pups about to be trimmed by me. (Not something I would suggest doing at home by the way.)
Certain rays will still swing the tail (like Southerns) if they feel the need. Cownose rays don't have the ability to manouver the barb as much, due to it's location at the tail's base (vs down mid tail like a Southern, Atlantic or any freshwater ray).
This will be mostly a cownose touch pool, but we do have a couple Southern stingrays going in as well to grow up prior to moving into our main 250,000 gallon Reef display.
Time for some more pics (see how I keep teasing?)
Laying the concrete base.
Adding tile to the sides (not my choice, but the end result isn't too bad. You'll have to trust me for now).
