my parents used to keep a tank with angels and discus
The combo is usually fine except for angelfish that are in spawning conditions or shall we say aggressive ones are the exceptions.

i have a texas chiclid in my Austrlian native tank

How long and all is well? I want to hear about tried and true experiences where two unusals or more co-exist in harmony.. :D:D

In my first year of fishkeeping, i had

one clown loach
three gouramis
two minnows i found in the pond, lol
one betta
and a bunch of serpaes :D

worked great for about a year, beleive it or not, until thee loach and the betta died, the minnows turned out to NOT be minnows, ate all the other fish, and then got eaten by a giant bug that i also found in the pond. all true!

Discus display tank with Rummynose and Cardinal tetras with a 10” Senegal bichir. Never lost one fish over a 3-year period, except the poor bichir who got out one night and found his way under the couch… Tank was a 90g with mucho plants.

now that is success.. the bichir could have got out in any tank so you cannot count that.. ..but that is a shame especially since he was 10 inches..
