I just like then as it sorta shows seinority, how contributive the user is and sorta like a rank system lol 
The post count is cool, but when it comes down to it, I'm here for the fish, not the post count 8)
I dont think it makes much difference either and although alot of these 20,000 poster might be "wow nice tank" posts these are also equally important to the user receiving the praise. Each to their own i guess
How about making the post counts as arbitrary as the titles under the names. Apparently you can have the title of your choice under your name if you ask for it. Why not the post counts....

For me, I joined the MFK site to share my knowlege, enthusasm for the hobby and hopefully help fellow fishkeepers, not to become fixed on the number of posts that I have made compared to other people.
