Post counts

Edit: I've seen on a few other sites, people get points when they make a good post/solve a problem. How about we adopt a modified version of that?

It would be too argumentative.. people would rush to be the first one to answer a question just for the brownie points.. Not that it's a horrible thing but I think it would lead to infighting, many times there's not only 1 correct answer, and it'd be hell for staff to track every problem that gets solved/good post and then assign a point for each on such a large scale. If I see any post that doesn't get answered it's usually because it's really unanswerable(question that has no real correct answer you can back with evidence), it's on a species that hasn't been kept hardly at all in the hobby, or the OP didn't provide enough info for the question.

We should all be excited to be a part of a place where so many people want to spend their time. Whether they spend it giving feedback to members looking for it or creating scientifically correct posts it all leads to the success. Couldn't have a great forum without both kinds of members.

may i presume you didn't anticipate how little people reacted, even the 20k'ers were chill.

i'd like to add one thing here.

post count does not show seniority or who's better than who etc.
all members here are equal although some are a little more equal than others ie staff etc.
but there are members out there who have plenty more knowledge than i have to use as an example.

I don't see post counts as that interesting granted I like showing that I have "contributed" either good or bad some 2600 times. but I like to see the post counts to let me know who may or may not have more to say.

Ok let's put it this way. If I see that dieselMack is no longer active but I also see that he's got like 1800 posts (or whatever number) I may see one thread that he has made and say well He's got so many other posts I'll check his threads and see what else he had to say. but if there was no count and he wasn't active then I know that I would not be so willing to look at his threads and other posts. Just assuming he had nothing more to contriubute.

You got the wrong impression as most other people here do who are afraid of their post count going to zilch. It does show how much a member contributes but it does not specify what exactly did you contribute other than plain comments, chit chat banters and anything vice the intensive discussion that would contribute better to the general knowledge to the public. We've encouraged intensive discussions before and basing most on sciences, yet we have noticed people prefer to discuss anything else while ignoring the scientific discussions which is typical for those who want their post counts increased to give them the impression of seniority equalling egocentrism.

i like post counts. i also like seeing what species everyone is and what i become when i break some undisclosed post count...
