I really like the blue coloration some cons have. Might breed them just because I like how they look lol

When it comes to breeding livebearers, is there a particular species that reproduces or grows faster than other species?
I've always imagined that guppies would produce less "meat" with their fancy fins vs fish like swordtails

In my short experience with breeding feeders it seems like it's a very involved process for not that much reward, in terms of amount of food. Once you get the fish breeding regularly (for my cons once a month) it takes about 6-8 weeks before they are big enough to use as food. This takes at least 2 tanks if not 3 with fry at different sizes. If you're looking to feed your tank/tanks with your fry more frequently than once a month then you would need a pretty large setup. I actually enjoy watching my cons raise and interact with their young and in that sense breeding is rewarding.

It would be impressive to see any setups that are efficiently banging out enough food to feed a tank of large fish more than once a month.

It does take awhile for them to get a decent size, and it is alot of work, but I do it for quality. Even good feeders at most LFS dont get feed and you are what you eat... not that any fish should probably live on feeders alone.

I breed guppies ad am seeing a pretty good return but I simply use them for both as a treat and since I like seeing them breed and grow. My godson loves feeding the guppies as their constant action entertains him.

Here are some pics of the setup though

The fry are fast as hell and there is a solikd 50+ in there right now with some large enough to feed. I have also used a few of them over the holiday as family came over and wanted to see the oscars chase the guppies.

^i think you would take better pics if your camera was on auto focus!!! xD

The tank is a beater 20 gal so the glass has a ton of scratches and swirls. Due to that pics have always been very difficult with it. That is why it sits in a back bedroom and is a breeder tank.

That said I was using the wife's camera so she might have a better setting. I simply use my dumbass auto everything setting she set up for me.

they take about a year those are left from last year i picked them up from the bottom of the canals here where i live every winter when they drain the canals so each barrel has the bottom full of clams along with the pond u see there with the shrimp and self cloning crays they range in size from 1/4 to those that u see 4inches but the small one i leave in the barrels and like i said about a year later they grew to there max size but not the giant clams thy take a bit longer but they breed in there also i fined there babies in the filters all the time about 1/8inch in size
Man, that's a big sentence!!

Wow those are some big pictures, you fed your oscars convicts?

Mine are one of those fish that ignore them completely.

Very frustrating.

Fed them to a Baby TSN yesterday.

I totally agree, I will never feed my tank with store bought feeders again. I have moved away from feeding live anyway, I only do it as an occasional treat.

i just finished setting up a convict breeder tank yesterday. ill put pics up this afternoon. will be feeding them to my rhom and my buddies p. bass
