Post LFS OVER PRICED FISHs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Profitably running a LFS is no walk in the park.

Profitably running a LFS that stocks rare, specialized, and large fish is really, really hard... especially if the store is located in a safe and accessible area (high overhead costs for rent, etc.).

I'm not defending LFS stupidity (or Petsmart), but it's not like the average LFS owner is rolling in bling by bumping up livestock prices a buck or two per.

Most LFS will entertain a reasonable offer on fish that they want to sell. Just don't be a deuche about it.

microscopic EBJD for $30. not sure what these guys go for, but it seemed like too high of a price.

We had a LFS that lasted about a month... because his "extremly rare white oscars that you can't find anywhere else" that were about 2"-3" long were a hefty price of 74.99. I asked what was so rare about these, he claimed he had been in the business for 20+ years and had only found the rare "albino" oscar twice. So i went to the other fish store and bought that same "extremely rare cant find anywhere else oscar" for 9.99. LOL

I was once given a 12 common pleco free. I've seen many others that people don't realize how big they get being given away. I almost willing to bet that the pleco in Edwin"s post was one such fish.

I've seen motoro's (3-4") going for 400-500 at a LFS near me. They also had a way overpriced silver aro (can't remember the exact price). They never sold it, it just jumped behind it's tank and they only found it like 6 months later.
