POST PICS OF YOUR FW SNAILS HERE.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here are some pics of my Pomacea canaliculata. It's a female. She is a mother of three clutches and approaching baseball size now. The second clutch is hatching right now with over 150 baby snails. I struggled to pry her off my breeder box containing the cana eggs but she's far too strong so I decided to wait until she reaches the edge just enough for me to shove her back to the tank.

Hows does one make "snail jello"?
Honey
Baby food (any brand)

Calcium pills (optional)
Fish food (optional)
Unflavored gelatin

Here is what I did.

1. Boil water in the pot. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of gelatin in there and keep stirring.
2. Pour 4-6 ounces of baby food into a microwaveable container and set microwave at medium and keep it on for a minute.
3. Mix baby food with a tablespoon or two of honey, 3-4 crushed calcium pills (fine powder) and then 2-3 tablespoons of fish foods.
4. Pour the mixed baby foods with gelatin. Stir and make sure there are not thick bubbles as you mix them.
5. Let it cool off for a few minutes and place it in the fridge afterwards.

Thought I'd share this one. There are a few other recipes I haven't done yet but I'm doing it soon enough when I have more time especially as Christmas is near.

By the way, the calcium pills I am using are Caltrate 600mg with Vitamin D. It can be either put there or simply drop it to the tank and the snails simply shovel them in. Honey is put there because the shy snails seem to approach it readily as they like anything sugary.

P.S. I tried this on my loaches and everyone went mad to grab the food. My BN plecos also grab their fair share of food with the snails.

Just thought I'd update this thread. My sister was playing around with her camera so she got some pics of my baby Pomacea diffusa. Here they are.

Purple diffusa roaming around looking for food. It's from the first clutch. It seems all my clutches yielded more purples than anything else. I do have ivory, burgundy, jade, chestnut, blue and a few others but some are seldom around in sight.

Here's a baby chestnut. It kept circling a pair of leaves of the Egeria densa, probably confused where it should go. It never attempted to 'parasnail' all the time it happened.lol

Another chestnut. My sister tried to take pics of its eyes as close as she could.

A few babies crawling around a rock. There are several of them but most spend too much time slacking off on plant leaves, driftwoods and at the back where there is too many plants.

Baby Pomacea canaliculata. They're two weeks old. I have several others who are three weeks old already and growing rather quickly.
