i sound incapable of owning this beautiful specimen that was put hear for all of us to admire

Actually this animal was not "put" HERE for anyone to admire. It's HERE to simply live it's life. Unfortunately, some humans are so arrogant and unkind that they feel the need to capture some animals and then torture them by keeping them in environments that simple are not even close to being reasonably accommodating. Then some will even try to hide behind the previous torture they were living in and claim to be "helping". "They came from a much smaller tank so I am actually helping it out", is a bunch of bull!

You know Dahmer used to abuse animals too.

No, rough is living in a cage where you can't even turn around without bending your spine to do so. Shameful is sitting there while it goes on and not doing anything about it.

Building a "new" tank for him/her (while it might be helpful in 1-2 years) has no real impact on the quality of life you are giving that animal NOW.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you had/have good intentions on getting this animal a better home in the future; If it were me I would have been on the phone looking for someone with a large enough tank that could house him properly the day after I suddelny discovered I was in the wrong about keeping him in such a small tank.

You have a great 400 gallon system that other animals who are better suited could enjoy, why not use it wisely. FYI: a 2' wide tank is not suitable for any adult shark that is usually found in the pet trade. When I kept coral cat sharks they were in a tank with a footprint of 6' x 3' and that is the bare minimum but suitable environment for sharks that only get 2' long.

Lastly, these "bashing" messages really aren't meant to chase you away or discourage you from posting here. But, your own lack of concern for your actions is what is setting people off IMO.

:iagree: This is the best post I have read all month! Animals are not here for our entertainment!!!!! Like I said on the other thread, you do not see this animal for what it really is.

WWWOOOOOAAAAHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh....

I should really stay out of this but....

Seriously for the record I absolutely agree that keeping a nurse shark in ANY home aquarium is foolish. Personally I would never even attempt to keep any shark in captivity unless I was a public aquarium owner, I believe whole-heartedly that sharks belong in the ocean!

BUTTTTT.....my god lets be civil and have some manners, we've all made mistakes and comparing mr. nickle to a SERIAL KILLER is REALLY out of line.

You have a nurse shark in a 400 gallon tank that it can't turn around in without touching both sides..... do you really want an answer to that question? I'll be impressed when I see this claimed tank start construction let alone finish. In all honesty when anyone points out a tank is too small, the first reply is always "Oh I have a bigger tank being made" - or something similar. Truth is by the time that tank is made, it's already done damage to the animal in question. MFK sees a LOT of "I'm going to" threads and very few "Finished project" threads.

Is is just me or are we lacking threads saying "I'm wanting a __(insert fish name here)__. So over the next year or two I'm going to build and properly cycle the tank. Then go out and purchase my very own __(same fish here)__."
you are my hero

I'm with you. That is cruel. Nurse sharks are not to be kept in an aquarium. PTC John could keep a nurse, but not this guy with a 400 gallon. It's just plain cruel...

johnPTC has a freshwater tank!

I think the reference was more to the idea that John has the proven "know how" and funding to build a large scale tank.
