Anyone know how to sex these guys? There are two in a lfs by me that has two of the more colorful variety like the one above this post. One has alot of blue on its dorsal fin and the black line on its side. The other is mostly pure red in the dorsal with no line on its side. Its that a sign of gender?

I was told that one sex tends to have better coloration than the other in Nics. I can't remember which sex was supposed to have the better color though. Is this true and if so which sex is it? One more thing, do you all think that they are very aggressive? I hear more stories about them being aggressive than docile. BTW nice pictures and info, everyone.

I think the Female is the one with the blue head in the Costa Rica ones. Male lacks the blue but has some nice spotting on the anal fin and maybe a few other little differences.

Costa rican nics sport a green or blue head while the nicaraguan race has a beige or topish colored head. Both have orange bodies. Females are supposedly more colorful. They sport a vertical line across their bodies while the male will have a single spot(s) and it are usually more faded. The male will generally look more faded.

Here are my older guys I got from rapps. They are 4.5" and they look pretty dull. When do these guys really start to color up?
