Forget Black Rays. I want one of THESE!!

Does anyone have extended information on this species? Collection locality.. Parnaiba?? Availability? I am so intrigued, this is the only pic I could find ..

I am not even sure if this is the right ray.. but I can not find any other photo reference of this species.

I don't think it's P. Falkneri, because the source I got this photo from specifically showed how they are similar and often confused.

Hi Miles,

this is a stunning ray and when I first saw the picture I wondered what species it could be. The picture is also shown in the first Arraia book from Taiwan p.152
The book is written in chinese, I can only read the scientific names.
Below that picture you can find the names P. signata and P. falkneri.

But I think this is not a falkneri and not a signata.
Maybe P. constellata? I don't know.

P. signata grow much larger than always written. I saw a picture of a specimen with 60cm diskwidth.

A very strange fish, it's eyes are really small and it's spiricels (things below the eyes) look like tiger rays. Maybe a tiger/castexi. As it has a huge tail.

can not forget about black rays but that is stunning... would love more info on them....

do you have photos from your source of true falkneri and these to show us the differences????

It's a stunning animal and I agree with andreas. It's defenitly not a Falkeneri we have a small collection of falkeneri now and the look completaly different. But I think it is a very rare animal otherwise we schould have seen it in the tradmore often.
Regards
Frank

would love to buy one.... guess nobody has info on that???
