Hi Folks - I'm exploring the use of pothos in sump to help lower nitrate as many MFK'ers have done here.

I try to keep my sump looking "tidy" so exploring ways to create a holder/container to keep the pothos within one of my sump chambers. I'd appreciate some creative ideas from those that currently do this or know ways to do this neatly to have a "clean look" in the sump? I'll admit I'm particular about this stuff, unnecessarily ;-)

Also, I'm thinking about using this Finnex for light? I'm think of connecting it to a timer for a couple hours a day - would that suffice? Thanks!

You can attach a plastic shower caddy in your sump for the Pothos. I have my pothos on top of my lids and the plant receive indirect light from a basment window. I think the Finnex led plant light fixture will work but will probably have to do more than 2 hours .

For pothos, how many hours do you think is sufficient? I'll experiment, but wanted to be in the ballpark to have a chance to keep them healthy.

Any good examples of a good shower caddy LOL tlindsay? I have some 4" diameter acrylic tube leftover and thinking about sticking some through some rings/tubes. Just need to see how i would attach to my sump.

Anyone with additional suggestions?

Thanks again. That caddy looks perfect. It also gave me an idea to drill a hole in the acrylic ring I have and add my own suction cup.

So do you basically just put partial pothis stem and roots in the basket. That works nice to contain the roots too and avoid growing all ivwr my sump chamber.

Yes place a few cut sections of Pothos in and should start growing roots in about 3 weeks or sooner.

DN328 DN328 knowing how crazy u are about cleanliness make sure the light isnt pointed down into the sump.

I did the same thing with water lettuce and a grow light and eventually had tons of algea growing all over the sump. Even i didnt like the look of it.

tarheel96 tarheel96 tried a bunch of different pothos plants. Mike how long did u run your lights ?

I have the lights on timer for 10 hours each day. I have tried a lot of plants like J jaws7777 said and pothos grows fastest. Arrowhead aka "Emerald gem" "Nephthytis" is also fast but it needs high light. It supports itself better. The one problem I have with pothos is its vine gets too long and you can't really support it.
I'll try to get a new picture but this was several months ago. I keep breaking the stems and leaves changing water but it's hanging over the other side of the tank now.
