Pothos experiment.....

Nice experiment, glad it worked out! Tank looks awesome... whats the gold record on the stairway if you dont mind me asking?
 
The key is putting it in a power filter (power filter motors tend to get clogged so I'd feed it via a powerhead or cannister filter outflow) ... that way the roots become a the mechanical filter as well as the bio filter... plus you get different water running over the roots at all time plus no crazy root systems in your tank... combine that with a healthy ammount of surface plants and I don't think I've ever actually changed the water... just added to it because surface plants drink water like its their job....


Also pothos are not the only plants that love this little planter.... any plant you can grow hydroponically LOOOVES your fish water....

pretty much exactly why i put them in my overflows. Most of the roots and runners stay out of the tank and they have different water always flowing by the roots. Power filter would be a great idea too, but my tank sits pretty much right up against the wall, so there's not enough room to do it on this tank.

I should have mentioned by the way... Gorgeous tank I'm quite jealous of the size and you've done a really good job aquascaping it... you should install some nice lights above the pothos... and go get the regular plant bulbs that screw into normal sockets and just put one over each of your pothos and they go nuts...
