Pothos Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi all :)
I added pothos to my tanks a couple months ago. I rinsed them and plopped them straight into the tank, and they took off immediately. Now I want to trim the roots down a bit. How much can I trim without hurting or slowing down the plant? Thanks guys!

Any trimming of the roots is going to slow the plants down some... but pothos is very hardy, it went from no roots to too many roots in your tank in a couple of months.

I would say trim away! Maybe start with trimming half the roots off then check nitrates after a couple of days. If the pothos isn't doing its job your nitrates will go up. If your nitrates go up to a level where they worry you do a water change and don't trim the roots as aggressively next time. My guess is that you are going to find the pothos very robust and it will rebound very quickly.
