Pound per Pound the Strongest Fish you Fought

I live on freshwater and fish daily. POUND FOR POUND one of the best fighiting fish in the WORLD are bluegills! ( sunfish etc whatever you call em where you from! ) Only thing is, the majority of them are not more than a pound! Light tackle pan fishing shows how scrappy they are! I go out in mid summer on my kayak with a 1wt fly rod, hand full of dry flys, and a 1piece med heavy rod with a spook or jitterbug. Have a blast catching bluegills one after another, and then when it gets darker, top water for the BIG bass! But smallies are little savages! Cold water fish like pickerel and muskie dont mess around either!

1 perch and 3 pickerel today on a Yo-zuri suspeding jerk bait. in Rhode Island ( 2-22-12 )

Exactly...you beat me to it. I catch some monsters, like 10"-12" in the U.P. here in MI and they fight just as hard as a 18"-20" LMB. Bluegill gets my vote for pound for pound toughest fighting fish

28 inch bullseye snakhead/ft lauderdale, fl.
My first snakehead ever caught and it was in winter! Super hard fighting fish...too bad we dont have them in orlando huh?

they made my list too. I think they could survive Orlando's temps just fine but obviously none up there.

I think that pound for pound the yellowfin tuna are the hardest pulling, fighting fish I have ever caught. I have some good pics to post later, my personal best is a 277lb yellowfin tuna. I did just catch a 125lb gulf grouper that pulled very hard but, I had him to the boat in 20 minutes. Some of my tuna take several hours..

I'll have to agree with others that I've had 1lb bluegill fight much harder than much heavier bass. However, I think that pound for pound the feistiest fish I've ever caught would be creek chub. They don't get big, but I've never caught another fish that thrashes and pulls so violently. Even in hand the little tubes of goo just tense and surge. I can't imagine if they got bigger.
