power feeding is a strange term.
let me explain it in this way
arowanas will constantly feed in the wild, scaning the surface or trees for anything they can get. so really, arownas eat all day, maybe even all night if the moon light alows them to see. i have fed arowanas insects at night, they will still eat under the 'moon light'
people have this MYTH in their head, that you should regulate your aros feeding.
in part it is true, feeding too much CAN be bad.
but really... with all 'old wives tales' come some truth.
most people around asia for example under filter their tanks to save initial set up costs.
not realising that constantly the arowana will be subjected to amonia spikes.
in theory, there shouldnt be a spike.
your filter should be good enough to handle amonia at all times.
so... they say regulate feeding cos you wanna avoid this sp8ike.... then in time became that its better for them to eat less
i have owned numerous arowanas in the past, all healthy, and i feed them what they wanna eat.
prawns is the easiest, its cheap, clean and lobved by all aro i have had. never had one refuse prawns.
just cheap market prawns, with shell of course as shell has vitamins.
but in saying that, pellets, super/mealworms. are all good, crickets, locusts i have also fed.
just feed in the mroning, and once a night. up to 14 inches, they will eat 2 to 3 times a day like that.
then naturally their appetite will taper, feed them what they wanna eat to a degree that you dont spoil them to just one type of food.
your arowana will get larger
