So we're could be getting a tornado or something soon down here in georgia. It's serious enough that school is canceled for tomorrow at least. We have a generator but it's old and we haven't messed with it in years. Probably works but I wanna be sure that even if it doesn't I'll be good.
If I'm out for power for several days to a week but am still able to do water changes would doing a water change replenish the oxygen in the water? If so I'd be willing to be doing water changes every 3 hours if I have to in order to keep my fish alive.

You could get some battery powered air pumps and put a air stone under a bag of filter media in the tank to get a bit of biological filtration or use them with sponge filters

Well regrettably mother refused to let me go to petco to get some battery powered air pumps as she is putting all of her trust into the generator. Any other ideas?

I would say that as long as you do enough water changes then you could be fine, if you could find some way to create some flow in the tank you would have a better chance. I would really try and see if the generator works and if it doesn’t I would really try and convince your mum to let you go out and get some air pumps

I'll be checking the generator as soon as I can. If it works then good, if not then we're going back tomorrow. If we can't go back tomorrow then I'm walking to petco and getting them myself and she knows I will.

Or you can throw an airline with a stone on the end in the tank and blow into it every couple hrs. I have done this once before, but the battery operated pump is a better option bar none. You can usually get them under$20 and maybe another $10 for batteries.

Hope it all goes well and you are safe from the storm bro.

When I’ve been without power I just use a bucket or cup(depending on if im doing this to my pond or a tank) and scoop up water and dump it back in a few times. I do this every half hour or so. I’ve never been without power for more then 6hrs though.

So my eheim 2217 came on the day I get the news we may be without power for a while. Ironic eh?

I use bait bucket air pumps I picked up at the local fishing/bait shop in my tank during our hurricanes. Worked great for a week during Irma.
