i always have my neighbor call me, even if the power only goes out for a minute, just in case a pump fails to kick back on.

i also have a web-cam that i can pull up from any computer. i can pan/tilt/zoom and see all my tanks.

submerged media is also very helpful, instead of a wet/dry

Daam! Talk about a back up system. That's sweet. I'm deffinately gonna have to come up with something.

dang freddy,,sorry to hear..hope she's ok..that would be a terrrible loss.:(

good advice given. just experienced this last year do to storm lost power for 6 days! my advice from my experience watch your water quality, feed little or not at all till you know things are ok, and water changes lots of water changes. i went and got a generator great investment saved my rays for sure all the other stuff like battery air pumps and water pumps that run off a boat battery junk IMO at least for rays. good luck you have some great rays too.

UPS with air pumps is a good start... you can then look into large batters to keep your system running and or auto start genorators(that gets expensive) if you can get UPS to run tank for a few hours till you can come home and start a generator you would be good.. keeping some stability on hand to help reboost your bio would be good idea too... and yes submerged media is better and bio will last a little longer no food or airation is gonna kill it off... i used to keep a small air stone in my sump for the what ever and ever week throw like 3 pellets in the first chamber so if id did shut down it would have something feeding it a little...

She seems to be better. Her breathing slowed down and she is swimming around a lot more. She might just make it.

thats good to hear, possibly the water conditions went south when the power went out stressed her out. Good luck

Thanks to everyone for their great advice and nice comments. She is a lot more active now. She still seems a little out of it but swimming around a lot more. She even punked my male for bugging her. She's always been the most aggressive of the three rays. Thanks again.

Glad she pulled through...

You have wayyy too much money invested to depends on power company.

Get UPS system for your air pump, a descent UPS system can run an air pump for hours. At least if something does happen you have some surface agitation.
