Well, this was a few years ago so prices have surely changed, and having a union trained electrician as a good beer&BBQ buddy and fellow ray nut doesn't hurt! ( and a Leo back then cost $75 wholesale regardless of size)

If you have to go on generator, you can just aerate, you don't need constant filtration....don't trust the ratings- get one that is at least 50% more than the calculated load... I went through two generators before finally finding one that could handle the load

a UPS on larger air pump running hydro sponges will cover you for awhile while you are not home... then when you get home you can run the generator

That is what I'm thinking; I don't think I can afford a generator that would handle business while I'm not there, so a UPS seems like a decent idea.
