[/QUOTE]how much is a generator bio diesel, and is it nosey? sounds beastly nosey. [QUOTE

most of them are but then again most are home made cause big oil doesn't want use to have that technology so it is suppressed but there is thousands of plans blue prints on line everywhere on bio diesel engines . if the can run cars with it you should be able to run your pond .
heres a better thought just have your grandpa switch out the battery's on his car for you get like three or four extras and the car can recharge them but before long the battery's will be shot be cause there not made to be ran down like that.
If I where you I would try talking your grandpa into getting a wind turbine "windmill" for your house or solar panels for the whole home then just run the pond off of the house juice.
I would go green on the whole house not just the pond if his looking to save money in the long run.

If you run a sump on your tank, you can rig up and old car alternater to be ran off the flowing water of your over flow. This in turn could charge a 12v car battery. Get an inverter and you can run the heater off the car battery.

sounds too willy wonka to me. i maybe wrong but a car engine is faster then water falling

They make a solar trickle charger for car batteries, you will still need have an inverter to run the heater off the car battery.

Maybe a little research would better your understanding.

Tell that to the Hoover Dam.

... confusing thread.

x2 :screwy:

haha perpetual motion heaters plugged into your neighbors house should work:ROFL:

ahhah if you could get enough power out of the solar panels thats the way to go but that also seems expensive

i like the idea to running the heater in a power friendly way. it is no too simple though. im sure by now u know u need an inverter. the challenge is how to charge the battaries. if you charge them from the wall you will loose a lot more energy than is needed to run the heater. first when the charger converts from ac to dc then when the inverter changes from dc to ac and with all the heat generated in the process. and if you use a car you will waste tons of energy in more ways than i can explain. i like the falling water idea. do u have an overflow tank? if you do the water has to go down to the sump anyway. might as well use it for something. if not then i would go with the solar idea, although it would be more expensive. the objective i guess is to save on the power bill, and if you use anything other than a new source (like a car or charger) then you would be using more energy not saving any. good luck.
