Lookin' GOOD :headbang2

Question so newbies know better, are your light fixture ends sealed? I wouldn't want someone to think they can just put anything where the water will splash or humidity will corrode it and cause possible shock hazzard.

Ok enough of this one let's see the next!!!!!!!! :j/k:

How long till it's cycled?

Dr Joe

Your tank looks bada$$, now I want to build one.

really nice tank! I'm hoping to build a 450-600 gallon tank sometime, but probably when I get my own house.... but that could be anywhere from 5 to 10 years from now...:(
by then I'll be an experienced fish keeper!

Dr Joe; The ends on that particular light fitting isn't sealed. That light fitting goes where ever light is needed with my diy/camping adventures... Old faithful. The two fittings I intend to use are still in use on one of my other tanks.
I haven't started cycling it yet. I'm still curing the background. 100% weekly water changes for 4 weeks. Just to make sure all the badies are leached out.

sparker18; a word of advice: Take the idea in your head, now make it bigger! :headbang2

Taz2478; The background is made out of Styro foam and pigmented plaster mix (1 part Portland cement, 4 - 5 parts sand). You cut and paste styro foam pieces together to form the background and then just plaster over it. Easy. The trick to getting real strong plaster layer is to keep it moist by spraying water over it with a mist gun for 1 or 2 days. Then submerge it in fresh water. 28 days submerged in fresh water should have the cement cured to 100% of its strength (or so says my clever QS girlfriend).

Quick update:
The doors are on! :headbang2 Finally making some progress. Now it's sump building time!

nice tank man... now ur done practicing go build a monster tank!

my practice tank is a 220g :P my next one will b a 500

I have a 8'x4'x4' reptile cage I built and used for years after my 12' burm. python died, I fliped the tank on it's back and took the windows out. Now it had an open top and a 6'x3' glass front. surf board epoxyd the whole thing. Then I was diagnosed with heart failure, lost the house and the tank has been in the back of storage ever sence. Your tank has inspired me to try a back wall like yours in my tank. As soon as I have the space i'm digging it out. Thanx for the idea, cool tank bro.

Looks good.

Once I own a house, the first thing I'm going to do is build myself a custom MONSTER TANK. :grinyes: :grinyes:
