Anyone keep any predatory catfish in their cichlid tanks? Im looking for something that will fit in my tank for life. my tank is a 220 (72x24x30) with a 55 gallon wet/dry. current stocklist is
1 ebjd
1 green severum
1 firemouth
and 3 plecos (L191, L52, L001)
I also have a cuban cichlid and a salvini in a growout tank and I plan on eventually adding a GT
I love TSN's, but fear it would to quickly either outgrow my tank or make a buffet of my cichlid collection. Any suggestions guys?

eh, i think puting a predatory catfish in with those mostly peaceful cichlids could get messy real fast, but, maybe you could consider a jaguar catfish or a school of 4-lined pictus, get bigger than the spotted pictus but not big enough to snack on your stock

Tigrinus or juruense

I kept a 4-line pictus in my 125 when I had my cichlids, and it was by far my most active and outgoing bottom dweller (also had senegal, ornate poly, eclipse cat)

i have a lima sholvenose with my EBJD...

Synodontis are tough enough for most cichlids. Most stay under 12". However, they might not take too kindly to some plecos but I find it usually has to do with space. You should have plenty. They will eat anything they can get in their mouths and are very tough fish.

Lima Shovelnose could live its life in a 220. TSN will outgrow that tank in less than a year easily and would be able to eat the EBJD and Firemouth in probably less than 6 months.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, keep em comming. I love the look of the Tigrinus and Juruense but was unsure about compatibility. Anyone see any possible problems with either of these? All my cichlids are already in the 5" to 6" range or close to it. Also I don't use feeders at all, but I don't really see this as an issue.

dont get tigrinus.. read a thread on keeping those the other day and they seem like hell on wheels

I'd stay with smaller cats in order to ensure the safety of your small cichlids, perhaps P. ornatus?
