Predatory catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea the TSN will eat them if they can fit in its Mouth. If you buy a small one you MIGHT be ok becuase your current stock will have enough time to grow out of their current snack size.

I LOVE Asain red tails...they are not hugh, but can be pretty aggressive. Blue Channels are pretty peaceful

Id not get a tig as they can be a pain to keep alive with other tankmates as they dont like being bothered but a jurenese would be ok,ive just got two little chrysycthys ornatus which are predatory and get to a max of 8 to 10" but will eat anything they can get in there big mouths, shaped like a tsn type cat, have look at my thread in the catfish section called whats my mottled catfish.

Steve

giraffe cat :headbang2 mean enough for cichlids, but a small mouth so they dont get eaten. Very active and they atleast get 2ft. Don't mess around get your first "real" fish lol you'll b very happy. Mine is 5 yrs old and about 12" raised on pellets since it was 1" def. One of my favorites. GL!

I checked out your thread steve, nice fish. I've never seen any of those before. And just so eveyone knows when I said "predatory catfish" I meant more along the lines of appearance then actual behavior. I'm not looking for the meanest cat out there, just a nice looking kittyfish

I have a Granulosus Catfish at about 8-9" and he is very easy going. At one time when he was about 5-6" I kept him with some 2" small cichlids I was growing out and he never touched them. He does get big, though they are more slow growing vs some of the other bigger catfish. If not, maybe a Rapheal?

i keep a lima with my cichlids in the 220. i wouldt call it that predatory, but its pretty damn cool to watch how it swims around. they dont seem to picky of eaters either

The other catfish I have with my cichlids is a Perruna Catfish. This fish is more predatory than the Granulosus, however is not too aggresive. I like both, but the Granulosus looks real cool with the spikes and armour.

how big do those peruna's get? they're really a good looking catfish

They get to around three or four feet... closer to three though. They have very long barbels and because of that you need a wide tank or they get stressed out. The one I have is in a 265g, however I just got him back from my cousin yesterday. I had to give him away last summer as my Jaguar that I used to have (about 10") liked the taste of him. I had a RTC, Granulosus and the Perruna, but he would only chew on the Perruna!!! I gave the Perruna to put in his 90g until yesterday. His 90g is having issues and he put the cat in a 30g!!! I think he fed this fish once a month as it only grew maybe an inch or two. It is 7" or so now. I will not keep him for long. I just don't have the room... wish I did.
