Prego Ray Behaviors Just Before Birth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe I didn't ask it right.. I know the whys of separating the female ect. ( makes 100% sense and I plan on doing this myself if my females get knocked up) but why are the "non-pregnant" rays getting more space then the prego females is my Q? ie to move around ect as they labor? curiosity question mainly.. I see a lot of pregoos on dividers that get what I would call "minimal" space to move around in and was wondering if there was a reason other then monopolizing a greater space? ie why isn't the tank split more in 1/2 ect so the female and her subsequent pups granted the greater space then the other tank-mates?

new to rays but every other animal I've bred in the past the pregnant females got "extra"space for being pregnant not what appears less... so I was wondering if its better for the pups of the female ect? or if its just a habit ect or what works out as a whole?

Too many tankmates to seperate equally. On the other side of the divider there are 2 rays, a 24" CK, and a 12" bala. Its about as fair as i can make it for right now

Well looks like she faked me out. She started eating again. It may be a few weeks yet. Maybe she was having braxton hicks contractions lol

Thanks for the answer, much appreciated =) and lol BHC's.. give her another week tops and I'm sure she'll be having the real thing ;) Looking forward to seeing a positive birth for her and you!

Oh come on. Slip a little something into her cereal to speed things up.

Oh and I forgot you have to give the females growth hormones also...they need to catch up with my male;) then I'd only need to wait a year or less to see what the pups would be like.

Nice vid. My big female never really did anything out of the norm. Never stopped eating so I never knew when it was getting close. Wish I had an indicator.

The gf did see my male get her again yesterday morning. Caught some on video but not enough to post up. Just the very end and that was out of focus. So the day counting starts

Your a good luck Charm Trev... noticed my male has been hanging around my big girl for the last week or two since going In the pool almost to the point he was harassing her but saw no marks ect... so didn't think much of it. But this morning when I went down looks like he finally got her.. as she was scrapped up abit in the back by all appearances and he has no interest in her today suddenly ( they where together almost constantly)... we'll see.

I'm assuming she hasn't popped yet...
