Premium 24k golden head Arowana 8 inches not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Let's talk about my Golden Aro for which I am seeking help.
He swims the tank and then sits down for some time and this process he will repeat continuously.
Please suggest .

Just because the silver ate does not mean your tank is big enough. Please read the above posts, you need a bigger tank for those fish soon. The reason they don't eat is from stress and the tank size is not enough for them. Please rehome, return or find a bigger tank for these fish

But when I bought this fish it was already in a small square size tank and he was eating goldfish.
I understand I need a bigger tank which I will do get one but how come he was fine at the shopkeeper with eating nicely in a smaller sized tank.

Just because it survives in a small tank for a bit doesn't mean it is healthy or the tank is big enough. We are talking about long-term solutions here. (hopefully) The store had a bigger tank in which it was going to place the aro. I hope you do as well. Aro are skittish from what I've heard. They jump and get very stressed in a small tank. Notice the title of this site. MONSTERfishkeepers.com. Big fish need big tanks, and if you don't have one, you shouldn't own this fish.

As for eating, listen to the aro people like islandguy11 islandguy11 and his peers (they do not include me, by the way. That's why I'm not giving you feeding advice). I know that you want us to help you with feeding the aro, but that is not the biggest problem here. But did you have a silver in there too?
If so, I'm very surprised either is still alive.

Fish are odd and it can be stress from moving, please try and be aware of the eventual size these fish will need. Also goldfish are unhealthy as feeders, it would be good to try other food sources.

Please help me with the list of food items to be given to my 24k crossback Golden Aro

1) Pellets: You should be able to get Hikari Food Sticks in your area. If you Aro's are small you can try breaking the pellets in half. If you can get your fish on pellets that would be great, as it would help to meet a lot of their basic nutritional requirements. They might not take them at first but don't give up.

2) Fresh/Frozen shrimp or prawns -- at your Aro's age/size I would recommend especially frozen ghost shrimp. (helps to add liquid vitamins 2-3 times a week).

Ghost shrimp -- your Aros will love them!

3) Fresh/Frozen fish -- like tilapia, pangasius, asian sea bass etc. (helps to add liquid vitamins 2-3 times a week)

4) Superworms, crickets, cockroaches etc -- but you have to be careful, once it eats these it might not eat pellets or other food so much, they love them too much. Also too much superworms = too much fat in diet (some say can lead to dropeye).

I give 1) + 2) or 3) every feeding for at least a semi-balanced diet.

I personally would never give feeder fish to any of my fish, (just too much chance for getting some disease from them), and esp. never goldfish (too much fat, not so nutritious).
