How long do you usually wait before trying prepared foods? Just tried krill again with my gar had limited success with it. I last fed them Tuesday mourning. Should I try raw fish next? Only one ate it that I am aware of the others would follow it as long as it was moving in the filters current.

Xander,

Thanks they show no interest in pellets at the moment. I wish I could find some frozen shad somewhere online. Do yours ever eat pellets?

John

Well I got them to take some small pieces of tilapia fillets still no interest in freeze dried krill or pellets. I will keep trying though.

post #6 should cover some basics.

i would avoid most raw fishes as they tend to be oily and break apart easily. go with shrimp, smelt or whole fish (make sure these don't breat up too easily).

Back up just a sec.... Raw fish fillet is not bad but should just not be the full diet. Different fish have different oil/fat content and this varies from species. Oil and fat is not really an awful thing but it quickly affects water quality and this is the issue with this. Smelt is actually extremely oily.

Correct sized Fresh thawed WHOLE fish of any type is indeed better than fillet. Seek it out as best you can but do not be too afraid of using cut filleted fish it is also just fine but it does lack quality.

As for the pellet issue... just give up... Here I have video proof it just will not happen in any species

Well I have the pellets that sink it seems as long as they are falling in the water column they trail them but as soon as they hit the bottom of the tanks they lost interest. Should I try floating pellets instead?

yes

Cos as of yesterday, everyone told me gars only eat live when young and frozen only when adult. No one told me gars take pallets. And there is this you tube vid that say gars don't take pallet. So I am quite surprised that they take pallet. It will be easy if they take pallet. So they do huh? Mine are gators.
