Preparing beefheart...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha yeah it'll definitely be around for a LONG damn time.

the reason i switched from beef heart every day to bloodworms was because of the digestion thing, i didn't think it'd be that big of a deal but my bichirs started getting these weird lumps on their stomach like they weren't digesting their food properly so i switched to bloodworms and ghost shrimp and boom, no more lumps

I've noticed the lumps since day1 no matter the food...either way I think it'll be good for them once or twice a week.

Really my biggest worry with my current feeding ideas is that more convicts will stay hidden and survive than get eaten and I end up with 40 convicts:nilly:

meh, convict fish fry omnomnomnomnom

Beef heart here is like $3 for a full heart. And they even cut all the bad parts off of it.

I have been looking into feeding it as well, to my bichirs, and my catfish.. but they seem to love massivore.

Let us know how it works out for you.

I got a pound prepared and all done up for three bucks yesterday. I would not know what to do with an eight pound heart. It looked real creepy since it was not frozen solid.

It wasn't too bad. 8 pounds is definitely a ****-load of heart. I have 3 'sections' of it frozen whole and 2 ziplocbags full of pre-cut chunks ready to serve. I tried breaking a bit off the other day just to see how easy it would be when it came time to feed it again, and its really easy.

Its pretty apparent once you get into the cutting what needs to go and what needs to stay, after that its just taking he time to cut it up & freeze it. But for 8 bucks, I'll put in the little bit of effort to have a foodsource for my carnivores for the next year+ ;) (although next time I'll definitely find a butcher that'll do it all for me )
