Problem.... Electricity Bill.......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is not your fish tank, it is something else. You should investigate other possible causes, and you leave your fish tank light on way too long, 4 hours a day is enough....

Its a 55g acrylic tank and i have a flowerhorn. I've been reading around and they say 82-86 degrees is right for a fh and alot of light is also good.

Yeah, you have something else that is running your bill up.

I have a reeflo barracuda and 1500W of power running and ny bill didn't jump that much.

Electricity bill is tooooooo much and i'm almost 100% sure its because of my fishtank. It was winter when i fist got my tank so we used the heater alot so i thought that could be the reason. Now its always warm but the bill is still sky high! I want to know if you guys have any tricks for using less energy?

As of now, the filter is running 24/7 and the light is on from app. 7am-9/10pm. The heater stays on 24/7, but it turns off when the heat reaches ~86 Degrees F.

:help2:

OK.. i see where ur probem is...

1: your heater is at a very high temperature.... depending on ur gallon of tank, do cook water up to 86 average.. thats ALOT of heat.... u only turn it on that high if ur fish requires it... but typically.. 78 is good.. thats my temperature now since summer is coming soon.. But ur in SF.. where its colder.. so its understanable...

2: Your lights... unless ur growing plants in there.. u dont need to turn them on 7am-10pm.. thats a good 15hour of non stop lighing... I only turn on my lights in the evening when i want to see my fish... they will do fine with no lights on...

3: if ur doing water changes.. do hot/warm water.. saves the heater from heater the water to that temperature...

I have 4 tanks right now.. 150gallon, 60gallon, 55 gallon and a 10gallon
My electricity is about 120bux a month... winter about 135 highest i've ever paid.. but when summer comes.. i'm gonna turn all my heaters to the lower setting so they dont need to burn as much power...

theres other stuff to save power.. like turning off ur computer at night.. and not turning them on during the day time... (Average power supply for towers 200-500watt) thats ALOT of watt for a computer with ur heaters...

I know because i build my own computer which is using a 480watt power supply.. I turn it off now when i'm at work and not at home and during the night i sleep the computer...

Have a look at somewhere like Home Depot for a power meter, I know we can get them here for about $20NZ (~$10US) and it will measure the consumption of electricity in kilowatt hours, so you can multiply that figure by the cost per kwh and find out exactly how much power its using.

For fh, you can keep the temp. at 80-82.

If you think your bill is high, my electric bill alone is $600/month.
