Problem With Seam on Acrylic Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, use a ratcheting strap, or two, around your tank to bolster what strength is remaining. You can loosen the straps while repairing then reapply the tension to them and let them act as clamp.

Be sure to place a piece of cardboard or towel between the ratchet mechanism and the acrylic to prevent scratches. -FM

oh, ok. thanks. that's a great idea...i'll have to do that

I still haven't heard back about getting #4 :irked: I'll probably just order some.

I am going to strap it right now. It has gotten worse.

thanks. I looked before and didn't find anything, but i must not have looked very well. I'm sure a city as big as the denver metro area will have it somewhere.

did you try plactic care?? they should have what you need. its somewhere off of pacos i think

I looked at their website before but can't find any weld-on or other solvent cement. Guess I can call them tomorrow. Well, I'm not sure if it's the same place or not 'cuz these guys are off of Sante Fe....plasticare.com

just go to ebay type weld on but if its gettin worse id drain the tank go buy to big rubber maid containers and just drain the tank. 4 is a water thin type which does cement them together but 16 is like a glue, if you know any plastic dealerships around your area they might sell the stuff there

You could also use a bar clamp when you go to fix it. It will allow you to get clamp right where you need it.

sorta. Weld-On 4 is going in and reparing it using an insulin syringe, but you can tell it really needs taken off and cleaned. I just have to keep on it.

Did either of you ever successfully accomplish this??? I have a 300 gallon tank that hasn't been used in a while and leaked from the seam when I did a test fill. The seam area that is leaking is about 2" long, but you cannot see any crack or gap. The panel is slightly pushed in enough to feel a small imperfection if you run your finger on the joint where the leak is.
