Problems after water change with dats

you know i just dont like it when people come in and say .. yo bro your ignorant fool you dont know jack you aint to smart .. bla bla bla .. come in .. give me your information you wish to share and leave out the jabs and negative coments ...

and how would you say i treat 150 gal's of water in my apt every 3rd day?

i would need to buy 2 bottles of prime a week .. minimum .. and that adds up ..

Having fish die after a water change is indicative of having issues with the water that you just put in the tank. It appears that the Dats are a bit more sensitive to whatever it is that is in your water.
There are other chemicals in your water besides chlorine that should be treated, chloramine would be one of them. I would also suggest treating the water with prime when doing water changes.

Prime should last you a quite bit more than 3 days. Please refer to the dosing instruction provided by Seachem.

Sizes: 50 mL, 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 2 L, 4 L, 20 L

Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 200 L (50 gallons*) of new water. This removes approximately 1 mg/L ammonia, 4 mg/L chloramine, or 5 mg/L chlorine. For smaller doses, please note each cap thread is approx. 1 mL. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. Sulfur odor is normal. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.

can this be added to the tank rather then the water before hand?

so say i do a 20-30% w/c i could add 1-2 caps right to the tank .. or do i have to treat the water before i add it to the tank ...

this would not be as big of a deal but i dont have a place to stage the water .. which is also the same reason i dont have any salt water tanks ..

and thanks for your information pharaoh

Just put it in the tank after you have removed water and before you add the fresh.

i will give it a shot .. sounds like it wont be a big deal ... the stuff i had said 10ml per 5 gal so i used almost the whole bottle .. so i will go pick this stuff up and try it out on the next wc... see if it drops the stress on the dats ..

thanks bro
it only takes 4 caps for me when im doing my 180
the small bottle of prime lasts me a month

Yes sir!

ive had the same issue recently, running 3 tanks, for few years now with little problems. i always use prime during water changes, and i've found out from my water company that in the colder months there's an additive in the water to help prevent freezing...again, this might not happen in every state but its well worth it do all prime and/or another dechlor to ensure the tap water is balanced in the tank.
