Guilty on heaters. I have a barrel in my room for WC now, am eagle eyed for overflows on the smaller tanks especially. It makes life easy at least

Well I forgot to weigh down my python drain hose in the catch sink one day. Came downstairs to spreading water out of the washroom, past the mud room and into the rec room...#)&% hose was layin' on the floor spewing gallons of water at a time. Just glad I didn't wait another half an hour to go downstairs!!!

Another time I made a slight miscalculation on fill time...the water pressure was higher one day so faster fill. (Normally I let the python run while I go up top) went downstairs and the 225 was full to the brim! My Oscar got a blast out of it though, throwing water over the top edge of the frame. I think he was trying to swim out the tank...he kept poking his big fat head out of the water.

So your options are the water goes stale vs the water goes stale and your canister filter motor overheats? What are you gaining by leaving them on?

If the impeller is moving , there is movement so the water should not be stagnant and thus should not go stale?

Moving where? The water is madly spinning in a little one inch circle within the impeller chamber. It's not moving out of the filter to be reoxygenated.

Protip: Even if you're sitting next to your tank while doing it, don't play video games while waiting for it to drain.

Protip 2: REAALLY DO NOT play video games while waiting for it to fill.

The number of times I’ve flooded the house can’t be counted on two hands. The worst one was when filling the 5 gallon ATO with the RODI line. I started around 10pm, passed out on the couch, woke up the next morning around 8am. What a mess that was.

Another time while filling the tank during a water change the hose popped off the pump in the salt water storage tank. Blasted water all over the floor, roof, walls.
