Product Review: SeaChem Purigen

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's called "The Bag" we sell them at Petsmart. Go into fish, go into the filter aisle and it is in with all of the canister stuff.

If your in a bind you could double bag using panty hose.
No joke.

Steal them from the girl that came over for a "nightcap". LOL

Anybody else use this? I am definetly gonna give it a try. I think some of you are recharging to soon with the first color change. The seachem website says that "Purigen® darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach" I think you should be recharging it when, like ewurm says, it reaches a crap color not tan.

For all of you out there that like to overfeed (ewurm raises hand), this product is for you. This product removes all sorts of bad crap, including ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and other impurities, with supposedly little effect on trace elements. About $13 gets you a pouch that treats 100 gal. You just drop it in your filter. The really great thing is that it is rechargeable. It changes color when it has reached capacity, and then you go through a 1/2 day process of soaking in various things to recharge.

I am trying it on one of my tanks, I will update this thread with results.

Now I can safely feed 47 times a day!

I know this is an old post but you can get 100ml bag for 6.95/bag.

I started to use it 2 months ago. Great stuff.

I've been using the same purigen in my bigger tank, without recharging it. It's been since last June. This sunday I am going to finally break down and actually recharge it since I've noticed my water color being off, like before using the purigen. I checked my uv light, and I know it's not because of that...

Overall, this stuff is AWESOME and a MUST if you have driftwood....my one and only reason for getting it....
