If you look at the length of the heater or thermometer, it does look to be something 48" by 21" high. Probably a 55 or a 75.

Are you cycling without a filter? Doesn't look like theres a filter intake or outtake in that tank.
Do you just pick apart people trying to learn? Always pointing out the bad with no good advice makes you look great.

To the OP, its always smart to get the wife involved. Heck, let her name the aro so she would feel obligated to allow u to get that next tank/filtration...

Live plants always look great until monsters decide to up root them.

The hell are you talking about? I couldn't see a filter in there so I simply asked if there was one or not. What kind of fool ignores potential mistakes and instead continues giving suggestions on top of that without correcting it first. :screwy:

Lol...the naming of the fish are left to the children, and my husband always has my full approval for anything he wishes to add to the tank. Despite a sketchy start, his concern is to create a strong and lasting home for the fish, and the family. My role is to keep up with the testing and water changes...which is no problem for me since the dirty water is great for my house plants, and the arowana loves to stroke and pet while water changing. I do hope, however, that with the larger tank, the water changes can be reduced to once a week...we'll see, though.
About the plants...low lying plants at 1/3 intervals still subject to disruption? How about some java ferns in driftwood? Any recommendations for strongly rooted plants?
With as much as we water change and the cooler temps (76 degrees) that we keep our tank, the birchirs seem likely to mate once they reach maturity. Should it happen, are their eggs simply fish food or is it worth it to create an environment in which a few could survive?
Where are you from, bomber? I know a man in Sacto area who breeds bulldogs, and whose primary sire is named Bomber...makes me curious. I don't have access to any profiles as of yet.

Awww...the filtration system in the first pic is obscured by the reflection of our sliding doors and the air bubbles. It is there though, and dayak put in another on the opposite side cuz he wasn't satisfied with the one. We would really like to get the one we will use for our 300-400 gallon tank (or even more if i can help and afford it) as soon as possible. Is there a single system that will work for such a large tank, or is multiple filtrations the best way to go? How about heating. I haven't seen any mega-watt heaters to date, though, tbh, i haven't been looking for much beyond what we already have.
In my previous tanks i always made it a habit to over-do my filtration. Same concept in monster tanks? They seem to be much, much dirtier than anything i've dealt with as of yet.

im sorry for the camera happy with my cellphone LOL
here they're another:popcorn:

whats shortbody?

How can i find out if it is a shortbody? what would cause such thickness for it's age? It was in the small tank for a relatively short period of time (2 weeks or less). Ate 5 neon tetras, a small bit of bloodworm, , 1 rose minnow, and spit some pellets back at us during this time.
Cooler temperatures for health??
Honestly, I do not want the arowana pellet trained. I want it to be variety fed with live food, always...could that cause stunting?
I was not there when it was bought, but hopefully will track down the latin name, as dayak will be taking me to the LFS where Aro was purchased. Till then, does it look healthy, despite it being sick?

This is mrs.dayak on dayak's account. My posts require approval still, so i hijacked his account. I have run our ph at 7.2 - 7.4...could this be a reason our arowana is thick...also, for the 2 weeks it was in small tank, it ate 5 neon tetras, one rose minnow, a small bit of bloodworm and spit some pellets back at us.
Personally, i do not want this fish pellet fed...i want a variety live diet. Suggestions and recommendations?
