Project: 350 gallon plywood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great Job, and thaland, that might not be a bad idea you have either. If I had thought of that before I started my build I'd probably be doing that right now. Wait I still can because I haven't added ply to the inside of the tank yet. Anyone else think that could work? Has the potential to save me a little money lol. I love this tank, and might have to try that on my future 500 gal that will be next to the 4000 gal I am building right now.

I actually like the wrinkles too. gives the tank a background. From a distance looks like sunken limbs in the shadows.

I think I might have to try this.... Did you consider gluing the liner to the plywood to prevent wrinkles? I spent most of my work day going over this in my head and I think if you glue liner to each piece of wood before construction and then silicone all the seams it could come out really nice with no wrinkles. It's a fantastic looking tank regardless you just got me thinking.
Or, you could get some pond liner seam tape. It might work just as well as the silicone.

This is a really great thread. One of the best on the site IMHO.

Probably the cheapest way to go, still too much for me though :) hah.

I decided to go with acrylic (Plexiglas) rather than glass. I got it from a local plastics company. You could get your glass from a local company that supplies and cuts glass. I have heard of some people taking an old cracked aquarium tank and using the glass from the sides that are not cracked (it was cheaper).

:headbang2great build was thinking of doing the same project... was thinking of the cracked glass tanks my self... thnx for the info...:headbang2:headbang2

I'd love to do this one day, but instead of plywood - treated sleepers. I know I could get it cheaper then a sheet of ply. or maybe I could get sleepers that haven't been treated?'

I can dream. lol. nice diy :)
