I just started my underground jet system a few minutes ago so I thought I would post my progress. This is the first one I have ever done so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

The first thing I did was cut some pieces of 3/4" pvc about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" long to use as the jets. After they were cut I boiled them for about five minutes.

Once they had been boiling for about five minutes I took them out one at a time. I placed one end in a union to keep it from mis-shaping then I smashed the other end with a pair of channel locks.

Once I finished them I started working in the tank. I used 1" pvc out of the overflow and down to the bottom of the tank. There I reduced the pipe down to 3/4" and started laying out the system.

So far I have done the right half of the tank.

Looking good, keep us posted

AWESOME! looking good...cant wait to see it fully operating!!

very nice.. cant wait to see it in operation. keep us all updated :D

Thanks everyone. I am going to be using a reeflo dart return pump. It should put out close to 2,000 gph after allowing for the head height.

I just finished setting up the other side. Now I have to decide if I am going to dye the pvc that is going to be under the sand. I'm thinking that it would look better white than black. I couldn't find a tan colored dye. I am going to die the back pieces black so they won't be seen very easily.

So what do you all think? Dye it black or leave it white? I am going to be using pool filter sand for the substrate.

Looks good.

What color sand are you planning? if natural, leave it white. I think white would look less obtrusive with a natural substrate.

Thanks, I am using pool filter sand which is a natural color.

Just glue whatever sand you are going to use to the jets. You can use epoxy (best) or silicone sealant. That way the jets will blend in with the sand.

Will pvc cement work for it? It is very easy to spread that on the pvc.
