Project Underground Jet System under way

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used silicone to stick sand to my jets and it works very well. FWIW i ended up taking mine off and putting on new ones that I painted with a sand colored paint. The sand on the jets became discolored and unsightly and I keep an extremely clean tank.

Here was one of the jets when it was new.

I will have small holes drilled to act as siphon breaks at the top. The holes should not have too much effect on the pressure.

Is there any certain type of epoxy I would need to use?

Just use window and door silicone found at any hardware store for about $30. Smear it on the PVC, roll the PVC in sand and let dry for a day or so. Very easy and not as hard to remove as epoxy.

Isn't that the same silicon that I bought for $4 a tube to build my sump?

Yes sir!

I ended up painting the jets a color close to the color of the sand. They don't look too bad in there. I painted the down tubes in the back black, they are barely noticable.

I also decided that I am going to do a closed loop on this system. It is already doing pretty well but I think it can do a lot better. I decided to order a new "little" pump to power just the ugj system. I'm just hoping the fish will still be able to swim!!! :D

The pump should be here early next week.

add a ballvavle to the discharge side of the pump for flow control

Absolutely, probably two of them. One for each of the two seperate ugj systems.
