Well at least your LFS know what a bichir is. I tried saying bir chir and the LFS owner was giving the :WTF: look...

In the end, I gave up and just say I was looking for "those snake like, eel type of fishes" and he was like "OH WHY DIDN'T U SAY SO?" and directed me to a tank with senegals and ornates

I got the same reaction, of course I was,and still do, call them a
"b-i-t-c-h-e-r", lol. "Poly" usually clears it up though.

*****er is what I used to say also. But it never felt right. While i am at it, how about Managuense? This is another one that I've never figured out.

I say, man- uh- gwens.

I've been way off on that, calling it a "Mang-a-neese" lol. I rarely call it by that, unless I'm trying to sound smart around people who know nothing about fish, because they can't correct me.

Years ago,when I was working in a pet store a coworker would say it as you did.I was fairly new with fish names back then so I was in no position to correct him even though I thought he was incorrect.But I did know that manganese was some type of mineral.

Uaru = "ew-a-rue" ?

Synodontis Eupterus = "sin-o-don-tis" "up-ter-es" ?
