uv sterilizers on a FW tank are nice, but by no means needed or gonna do anything special.

No offense, but you need to find more knowledgeable people to get your info from and stay away from who ever gave you this tidbit. Do a search on here to get a better idea of how things really work.

already said and done, it was one of the part time helpers...I just wanted to share my experience when asking this question..and some of the large (petsmart/petcos said the same thing)..
and then a few months later I moved about 2 hours away...lol

Thankz Doc....much appreciated. I do have a sump, don't really need the extra aeriation in it though as its going through two tanks before it gets to the sump...ha. Oh well, it was a short lived vision at best. I think I shall use the money to invest in a UV instead...

Thats a better idea. UV is invaluable because it kills parasites and algae. At one time, the pond was clearer than my tank haha

Mine was pretty reasonable at an up-and-running price of about $4500.00. I bought it used. When it was bought 'new' it sold for around $13000.00

Well, you know I'm retired Navy. I work on the same electronics I worked on in radar and missile systems. Only now, the pay is better and I don't forward-deploy. Plus, I have no mortgages on my 2 buildings, my truck is paid for, and I have no kids.

Thought about it. But, I have 4 suitcases, 3 roll-around overnight totes, 6 seabags, and 5 backpacks. That's pretty much all the 'extra baggage' I need.
