I want a UV sterilizer too. That would make life easier.

Ewurm, Submariner makes a UV sterilizer/powerhead, why don't you look into getting one of them.

Man, looked into UV Sterilizers, and there are so many different types!! Wow!! 9watt would be more than enough I think. Which is best though? Inline? In Tank? Or the ones with their own pumps/powerhead?

In choosing a UV sterilizer, the things to look for are:

Dwell time - How long is the water irradiated by the UV as it passes through the housing? Turbo-twist units have the longest dwell time for compact over-the-counter units.

Lamp Change- Does the unit have an easy lamp replacement procedure or does the unit require the plumbing unhooked for unit disassembly?

Window cleaner - Does the unit have a quick-wipe feature to remove dirt buildup on the window between the lamp and water passage?

Well, you know I'm retired Navy. I work on the same electronics I worked on in radar and missile systems. Only now, the pay is better and I don't forward-deploy. Plus, I have no mortgages on my 2 buildings, my truck is paid for, and I have no kids.

perfect set-up for a human male.

Just to add to Oddball's list...

Inline / in tank / powered...all depend on your tank / filter setup.

If you have a sump you can put it in the return line.

Put a powered one in the sump if it's gravity return.

If you aren't able to attach or splice into the return line, you can put a powered one in the tank just put a sponge filter on it's input.

Match the uv to your tank size and pump flow.

Check bulb replacement schedule...anywhere from 6mo's to a yr.

Oh, and price the replacement bulbs, some cost almost as much a new unit or are unavailable. Buy a bulb when you get the uv.
