Pseudoplatystoma orinocoense pics. Rare TSN?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tend to follow the genetic evidence (i.e. only four species of Pseudo), but I'm still curious if different basins tend to have predictably different color patterns.

I did some digging and got this pic from a friend's fb. This is Pseudoplatystoma from a fish market along the Apure river (large tributary of the Orinoco), so according to the location and the color pattern--more regular vertical bands, this would be a true orinocoense. Thoughts?

Great find with that pic! Im no expert but its visually different from the regular tsn we come across.im guessing the one pictured if it is a true orinocoense is over the stated size of 20 inches? If yours turn out looking like that you will have some major jelous catfish keepers on here including myself i love the strip pattern and rarity of it.

I've no opinion yet.

The fish's indeed looks like roughly 2.5' to me.

I've done some leg work but need to find time to read carefully what I put together in post #40 in the TSN stickie: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/tsn-id-chart-pseudoplatystoma.322161/page-4

Comanswoodwork Comanswoodwork indeed, an update would be very kind of you.
