Went to a lfs yesterday, and saw a green texas cichlid about 6-7 inches trying to bite me through the glass, I hear of super aggressive cichlids but never seen it in person or at the right time yet and it was great.

What other psychopath cichlids are out there that doesnt require such huge tanks preferrably as low as they can go? Obviously dovii's and umbie's are out of the question

What other aggressive cichlids can fit within the range of a 50-100 gal? I know that each fish's temperament differentiates more or less but how about in most cases? Personal experiences please. ;)

I think i'm set on a pair of jags for now. =]

A pair of Jags would work in a 6 foot tank, but nothing less. Males can reach over a foot, while females usually hit a foot. There has been proof of jags getting to 18-20 inches in length. I've actually seen a 20 inch jag in person and they are huge.

full grown male convicts look very impressive not many people have got a male covict to super grandady size with the big hump . these dominant males are really agro. about 9"

in a 6' tank it would also allow for tankmates

a pair of jags would be ok for a while thoe once fish breed there growth is almost stops, so if u get them small and grow them up togther and they start breeding a smaller size it will take them a while to out grow the tank (as most of there food and energy goes towards breeding), but i also belive this method slows the male from achiveing his jag patten and colours as well, so in this situation it be a very long time befor the male hit 14inch+

I love how this thread is over 3 years old and no one noticed.

I had a pr. of dempseys 6 inch male 41/2 female kill a 12 in red devil when they decided to breed.

Really?

Collectively a pair of dempseys that size would not even equal half the mass of a 12" red devil. Physically speaking I dont even think a pair of dempseys who are that size could significantly harm a red devil. The red devil would have had to be so ill that it was unable to defend itself or even swim away. If a 12" red devil even locked jaws with a 6" dempsey it would certainly crush the dempseys jaws.
