Hello! I was looking at the web for some info about common lionfish, but all I found was general info of the fish, I would like to make a good thread that talks about this fish, but I want all of us to do these together. If someone keeps this fish give a short description about his/her experience with this fish! thanks!

a general descrition is really all that's needed, they are a pretty basic and easy to care for fish.. needing only few provisions..

a large tank (100+)
no live goldfish (preferably no live fish period)
and watch out for the spines..

that's really it..

Liveaquaria says 50 gallons is good, but usually thats the bare minimum so 100 would be nice.

live shrimp wouldn't hurt it.

and yes, watch out for those spines :)

a 50 gallon tank for a 16-18" beachball?

i doubt it

eh, that's what they say... http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+36+279&pcatid=279

I don't see how it would work out ether unless you had either a small volitan,(in which case you would need a new tank in afew months) or nothing in your tank but a volitan.

well the tank simply isn't big enough to FIT the lion, much less keep the water stable

liveaquaria.com also says you can keep sharks and aramana in a 125-180 gallon... i don't trust their size ratings...

Yeah, their sizing is questionable, but their service is top notch. :grinno:

a lot of places say you can keep a shark in a 180g, back when i thought i was ready for a shark i was looking around, mom talked me out of it however, was a good thing though.

I would say 180 for a small/baby bamboo shark, but 300+ for an adult.

Live Aquaria is in it to sell fish, not care for them properly. I never trust any of their suggested tank sizes.

Lions are pretty staight forward marine fish. They like to just hang out. They'll munch on fish smaller than they are if some are around. One of the coolest behaviors you'll see is them orientating themselves to the nearest edge or surface (meaning you'll see them in some crazy positions in your tank). They are venomous so watch the spines, and treat the wound quickly if you get nailed by one.

They do get big, so something 100 gallons or more would be nice. The bigger the better.
