Thats sad. For financial reasons i am not buying puffers but would love a chinese hairy puffer :)

keep an eye out. one may show up like the Hapi did. :)

Thanks :) I had wanted one and had been researching them for months before I stumbled upon Hapi here. I felt so bad for him. I normally don't buy sick fish, but he deserved a shot, and they were selling him for $19.99. I go back to the store regularly and check to see what they have. One of the associates was telling a family how sensitive puffers are, one of them puffs every time she feeds him. They really don't know what they are doing and have most of them paired with the wrong tank mates. They had mainly been dropping flakes and pellets in the tank for my puffer to eat. When I asked for him the associate on duty didn't even know he was in the tank. They had a second fahaka with Hapi, but they sold him fast and poor Hapi was just forgotten.

oh geeze! i can hardly read that without gettin verklempt.
When i saw puffers at walmart for the first time, I walked away. I went home and I woke up in the middle of the night and saw their pleading faces. Went back and bought 2. they survived the night, so went back for the rest.
After that I couldnt sleep untill after i had rescued as many as i could find. Every week on tuesday, delivery day, I felt sick terrified i was wrong too rescue them, but I just kept remembering how much worse it is to walk away. If you turn your back on suffering, You have become the Suffering.
Don't believe anyone who tries to lay that guilt trip on you, telling you you're the problem. APATHY is the problem. Rescue works if you back it up with persistent advocacy.

Apathy and ignorance r the root of many problems, as the saying goes a cold heart is a dead heart.
Oddly, my worst opponents are always conservationists and hobbyists. Walmart is way more polite to me. lol

For what reason? Im pretty sure they would rather buy puffers somewhere they are looked after

Just for the record, I'm an atheist/Buddhist, but this experience has been a life changer.

It was a leap of faith that I would succeed in convincing Walmart to stop selling them. I was told I was increasing the demand by buying them. I knew there was truth in that, but I also "knew" I would be able to do this. This is where it gets kinda nutty, but I never had a doubt. Even when I was terrified I knew it was already in the stars, that I was merely the vehicle that was sending their message. People started showing up right when I needed them, supplies and anything the puffs needed to further their case suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I felt fire in my heart knowing I was swept up into something huge and already in motion. I was exactly where I was needed to fulfill a time happening right at that moment. An awareness was guiding my every step almost like trying to run on a conveyor belt. I felt an urgency to get to the next mark or miss my cue. I had to push fear aside because I was part of something happening outside myself. Events were unfolding as if I were an actor and the stage had been set for me to make a move, or find another key player. Every day a new opportunity opened up, and everyday nay sayers attacked, ridiculed, and condemned me. I had to keep going on blind faith. 2 years later and the Puffers have supporters everywhere, even in corporate, and SF is leading the way. It's a slow trip, but we're on our way. There will always be critics, I still get alot of negative people, but anything untried or challenging to peoples expectations is going to rile some.
