Puffer puffed! Neat!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If they puff on their own, for their own reasons, it's fine. It's when we constantly torture then into puffing that the stress can cause them to become sick, stop eating & die.

Except for the unatural act of puffing in air while being taken out of the water, I can't imagine it being all that bad for them. I mean, they evolved this for defense, so I can't see more of them dying from puffing than dying by predation otherwise it would be a pretty useless defense.

i agree but i think its something to do with the freshwater ones not being strong enough to dispell the water

I work with this guy who has fish ( I say has b/c he doesn't know ANYTHING about keeping fish) and he got one of those little green brackish puffers from wallmart. took it home and found out that if his daughter smacked the tank with her had it would puff up. So what does this @$$ go out and do he thinks it's the coolest thing he has ever seen and goes and buys 5 MORE so she can pound away at the tank and make the puffers puff. Needless to say in one day he had 1/2 his puffers die. That's why this guy talks to my G/F about fish and not ME.

now im posting on a basically dead thread... whats to become of me??? lol jk. but i recently went to Wal-Mart and saw all the food deprived abandoned fish (including puffers) so i dropped a small shrimp into the tank from their cubbord of food and whatched them all go at it for 5 mins... IT WAS COOL!!!! and at the end more than half of them had puffed! and they all depuffed so i lefted. just thought id say that. it was pretty cool. and i think a chinese algae eater got caught in the crossfire and ended up food :( lol it was awesome tho :) :)
