The Thai had done like CC above mention methods but all the got is unfertile eggs, even they lost some female ST.Even in ST Documantary ,there is a breeder claimed that he has succesfull breed some fry, once 900 fry second around 1,0000.At first we saw that documantary we were :WHOA:.For sometimes the small one is not in the market and everything go silent. So we ,then :(.Don't try to said that he will keep for himself cause we Tiger craze know how this creture consume it's foods

With thousands of ST owners and breeders wannabe , still not one video of a specimen laying eggs around and yet there are like 20 threads claiming captive breeding :screwy:

obviously you have no clue what you are talking about.....the term "extinct in the wild " means anything to you ?
since you seem so confident, why don't you give it a try ? you can start by explaining to us how you tell sexes apart.

Sorry. Just voicing my opinion.

Thanks benzjamin13 for editing my post, but in fact I did not want the former without the latter. Just look at condescending attitude in response to my opinion. No constructive community needs any type of bashing when mere opinions are voiced. He could have chosen to do it minus the attitude. Instead he took the low road.

Now that I have the allocated some time for leisure, let me break it down for nomad.

obviously you have no clue what you are talking about
Just continue reading.

the term "extinct in the wild " means anything to you ?
What about it? Species go extinct all the time. Sometimes they even reemerge after decades or centuries. Google is your friend; this happens in animals, fish, and everything else in between. Just cause we can't observe something does not mean it is not occurring -the galaxy is vast it is bound to be happening somewhere.

Can you tell me that we have someone watching every square inch of that river at any given moment? Exactly, no. It is rather the researchers and fishermen who are reporting these findings after going out and trying to fish for them. Any simple college statistics course can tell you that if these fish were already low to extremely low in population from overfishing, your probablity is netting one is also extremely low.

Keeping that in mind. Now, taken in to account that fishes themselves has specific tastes and preferences. Especially since fishing relies on baits, your probability decreases even MORE. On top of which people can not be selective of the fish in which they are trying to hook. They either bite or not. Your probability of netting/catching one drops even more significantly.

Remember how the probability of catching one was already extremely low? Add the aforementioned and your probability drops almost down close to zero, but it doesn't mean they aren't in there.

Again, unless you are telling me that someone is watching every inch of that river and/or use a fine mesh net to run the entire length and depth of that river. Get off that high and mighty chair of yours and be more respectful of other peoples opinions by refraining to use sentences that start with: "obviously you have no clue what you are talking about"

Cause do you really have all the facts? Clearly not. Lets go further.

since you seem so confident, why don't you give it a try ?
I am confident, science has been making huge headways since we had the ability to sequence DNA. Even in its infancy, we have done some rather extraordinarily things with this new found knowledge. I am confident in two things - the ability of man to destroy but also to create. Give it more time and we will be able to do wonders with this information. Let us not forget cloning is always an option. Feasible, no. Pricey, obviously. Option, of course.

Side note: Our understanding of proteins are rather limited still. I encourage everyone to help by doing Folding@Home (FAH). It is a Stanford project that folds/unfolds these proteins to better understand the way they work. Their project has made a lot of remarkable discovers. The implication of these discovers include but are not limited to:

"Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes." Source: http://folding.stanford.edu

I've been folding for a very long time now. When your computer is on idle, just run the program. Every little bit helps.

you can start by explaining to us how you tell sexes apart.
I don't need to. Since no one has witness or came forward to explain how these creatures mate.

/start sarcasm

I'm going to tell you how it really goes down, but make sure to take notes!

Code:
It has to be on a night that there is a full moon, but a unicorn has to be present too.
Of course you also need 300 female virgins to stand in the water and urinate downstream
because this really gets the ST/WB's hormones on the frits.

/end sarcasm

My original point and current point is this, since no one knows than it could be anything. It could be asexual reproduction or it could be as crazy as my story above. However, one thing is for sure. They do reproduce, because they would not be in your tanks today or years ago if they were incapable of doing so. Otherwise, natural selection would have been done with them millenniums ago. I'm confident if they can do it themselves, we can do it for them too. Whether it be artificial insemination or human created clones as a last resort for means of reproduction.

CrAzYNeSs....I never had the intent to "bash" you ....sorry if it came out that way. The truth is that I'm sick and tired of seeing every other week another "ST captive breeding" thread with just speculations and zero proof .....don't you think is ultimately just a waste of bandwith ? That's all.

i think until we start to see some real proof its very hard to believe in these threads. just my ten pence....

To be fair nomad, a lot of the thread that mention breeding don't make claims of it and turn into good discussions about it.

Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean people shouldn't discuss it. If it's just the same old stuff regurgitated then it is boring and "use the search function" would be the cry. But it's not the same old stuff is it?
In the last 12 month i went to several places to get real information the best i could. This month Karun has come on to the broad and he is a mine of information about the current state of ST.
Someone has pointed out a claim of captive bred from a web site and it's opened a good discussion about the place where they will be bred first, if ever.
