DC,

I think I need all the luck that I can get.

Seems like the male has decided that 90% of the tank space belongs to him now. I haven't seen the female swim in the "open" for a couple of days now. She just hangs out (I think she's in hiding mode) in the bushy corner. I only see her when she goes up and gulps for air.

Hope the situation will improve. Sigh.

Any ideas on how I can improve this situation?

To be fair, it IS that time of the year...
Devon will know better though, as I don't suppose the male would fight with his mouth full of eggs, but I have been wrong before.

It could also be that your male is indeed a female, and your female a male, that the male is being a "recluse" while incubating.

Or last but not least, they may not be bonded, and the male just had enough of her company...

I cross my fingers for you that it could be 1 or 2, though, they don't seem likely.
