Pulling out fish...

I forget what it is called, but white plastic "grid', I think it is called egg crate, that you use under fluorescent lighting in ceilings. Get some. It is very cheap at any hardware store. Drop your water level to a foot or whatever, and cut a piece of egg crate to a foot (or whatever) and the width of the tank. With one hand you move it across the tank until you have all the fish in one small area. Net at will. Lift the egg crate. I have used this many times and never had an issue. Makes the whole job very quick.

If you're losig track of your specifics, net any and all. Keepers in one container, rid of in another. Worked best for me with determining in 30 africans.

Fishkeeping is my cocaine.

At night turn all the lights off, make the entire room pitch black. Wait 30 minutes - an hour and all the fish will fall asleep. They should be hanging near the bottom or in the plants/decorations. Then with a flashlight or something, very quickly walk into the room and net the fish before they wake up. You'll have a couple minutes.

The egg crate idea is genius. A few years ago when I tried to move a 55g african cichlid tank I was trying to catch specific fish to sell for store credit. I wasted hours upon hours until I read that suggestion...about 15 minutes later I was done (I had some egg crate around already).
