Pump for my 360 gallon ray tank! HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks Pharaoh! Here are the pumps I have decided since im on a budget what one would you go with my overflow drains are dual 1.5 inch pvc and my returns are dual 3/4 inch pvc will these pumps work with that setup? My tank is all tempered so sub only! Im thinking the 4800 but then again will that be to much for 3/4 inch returns? read the chart for head hieght on each pump and let me know thanks!! http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.c...ubref=AA&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=0070371000000

From what I gather, the dual 3/4" pipes is not exactly the same as a 1 1/2" pipe. So you might be stuck with going a with a 1 1/4" pipe unless you ad another line.

I just bought a hy-drive today from here:
http://www.aquatictech.com/pumps.html

They had the best prices on them I could find. Even with shipping they were better than I could find on the net.

You can always split the return into more than two 3/4". I called danner today to get info and was told they recommend 1-1/2" or 2" on the return side. So I plan to do 1-1/2" and split off (4) 3/4" returns.

i would deff get a oversized pump, that way u wont be disappointed and u can always T off back to ur sump to keep the sump stirred.

i like pondmaster hydrive pumps for submersible.

why do u have to have 3/4" returns? for max flow rate u should stay larger...

if u are into big rays i would do at least 10x turn over min. on all my ray tanks i do 15x min.

alot of people dont understand how dirty rays are compared to other fish.

my tank is plumbed with 3/4 inch returns and a center overflow! I have dual 1.5 inch built into a dual center overflow! the return are in the center of the overflow and are drilled and plumbed for 3/4 inch returns its a bummer but should work! Im going with the hy-drive 4800 so at my 4 feet of head after all my bends i should be around 3500 almost 10x turnover! here is a Birdseye view of the overflow!overflow.jpeg

sounds pretty good. u can always add an fx5 or something in the future if u need to

very nice size tank!

I actually have a fx5 on another tank its my 180 which also has 3 diy filters and a 15x turnover :) WOuld you drill the tank for t he fx 5?

I ordered the same pump that I use in my Koi pond because it's been doing so good, and it's submersible and external compatible. they are super efficient too.

They're Pondmaster(Danner) Pro hy-drive. I paid about $190 incl shipping for the 4000gph for my ray pool. They make from 1600gph up to 6000
0ft-4300gph 1ft-4000gph 3ft-3300gph 5ft-2700gph 7ft-2350 10ft-1475gph-----13ft max head.

This isn't to say that this is the greatest pump in the world, but I went only on initial cost, efficiency, and the fact that my pond is still pumping...and that thing sucks muck all the time too.

Anyone else try a similar pump? Sweetwater High Efficiency is the only pump I found that compares to the efficiency...and they are real nice....but $500 for a pump isn't me...

Lol...Just saw this. Great minds think alike!

And yeah...The first time I saw one of these things take a dump in the tank.... I had some REAL second thoughts about the whole Stingray thing....lol. But I got over it...
